Bijagos Archipelago

The Bissagos Islands, also Bijagos as in its Portuguese name (Arquipelago dos Bijagos) are a group of about 88 islands and islets located in the Atlantic Ocean and are part of the African nation of Guinea-Bissau. The islands contain a high degree of biodiversity, with mangrove forests, saltwater swamps and palm trees interspersed with zones of dry forest, coastal savanna and sand banks. Island rivers release nutrient-rich freshwater into the ocean, creating a breeding ground and habitat for many species, including crocodile, fish, crustaceans and mollusks, and the symbolically important sea turtles and hippopotamus. Each year, around 1 million local and migratory birds from as far away as Siberia and Northern Europe settle in the archipelago to breed.

Cotonou, Benin

Cotonou is the largest city and the economic hub of Benin, a country in West Africa. Although it is not the capital, it is the most important urban center in the country, with a population of around 1 to 1.5 million people. The city is known for its busy port, which serves not only Benin but also neighboring regions, playing a crucial role in the area's trade and economy. Cotonou has a tropical climate with warm and humid weather and is characterized by a vibrant cultural life that includes traditional markets and local arts. Despite its significance, the city faces challenges such as poverty and the need for infrastructure improvements.

Dakar, Senegal

Dakar is the capital and largest city of Senegal, located on the westernmost tip of Africa at Cape Verde Peninsula. Bustling, energetic and full of contrasts, it is a major port, economic hub and a center of contemporary African art, music and fashion. With districts like the Plateau, the colorful Kermel market and Gorée Island — marked by its colonial past — Dakar blends history, cosmopolitan flair and an unrelenting pace of life.

Tema, Ghana

Tema city is located in Southeast Ghana, near Accra. Tema is Ghanas leading seaport and an industrial center and the city mostly exports cacao. Other industrial products of the town include aluminium, steel, processed fish, refined petroleum, textiles, chemicals, food products, and cement. It is considered the "heart of the country's development.

Tokeh

Tokeh is a coastal village in Sierra Leone, about 30 kilometers from Freetown. It is known for its white sandy beaches, clear waters, and tropical scenery. Resorts like Tokeh Sands and Tokeh Palms offer ideal spots for relaxation, swimming, and peaceful holidays. The village combines natural beauty with local culture, providing an authentic experience.

Takoradi, Ghana

Takoradi lies on the south-western coast of Ghana, and is the smallest half of the twin city Sekondi-Takoradi, which is the capital of the Western Region. Takoradi is famous for attractive beaches, historic edifices and factories. There is a wide range of hotels and restaurants on offer. Takoradi Technical Institute houses a Fabrication laboratory, equipped by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), which is the first of its kind in Africa.

Lome, Togo

Lome is the capital and largest city of Togo, located on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. It serves as the country’s main port and economic center, with activities that include trade, phosphate exports, and handicrafts. The city is notable for its colorful markets, such as the Grand Market, and for the Sacred Heart Cathedral. Lomé combines traditional African culture with colonial architectural elements and serves as a starting point for exploring the country.

Silversea Cruises

Let us take you on a personal journey of discovery. Amid the tranquillity of the sea and the exuberance of distant lands, we will arouse your curiosity and seduce your senses. We will stimulate your imagination and spark new insights. Our aim is to create experiences that will enrich your life for years to come. From the moment you step onboard to the time you say "Arrivederci", our Italian sense of style will shine. The ebullience of our hospitality, the genuine warmth of our service and our evident appreciation of the finer things in life are genial qualities of our founders and owners. They are the principles on which Silversea were founded.

Small is beautiful and bountiful. With fewer guests and a high staff to guest ratio, we can tailor our unobtrusive service to individual needs. And you can join a select on board community of travellers with similar aspirations. The intimate ambience on our shιps has parallels with the atmosphere of a refined club. We are happy to sail against the tide. While most cruise lines build larger and ever-larger ships, we prefer to stay small. In this way we can preserve the special Silversea experience our guests have come to expect ... the intimate ambience, personal service and access to more intriguing secluded ports.

SMALLER GETS YOU CLOSER

Our small ships are agile enough to visit more remote, lesser-known ports and to bring you closer to some of the world's greatest destinations. They can sail up narrow waterways into the heart of a city, they can navigate around tiny islands and they can tie up right at the dock while others must anchor offshore. In the world of upscale cruising, less is more... considerably more, as our seven small ships offer infinite opportunities across all seven continents.
