From Miami (USA) to Key West, Spanish Town (Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands), Basseterre (St. Kitts and Nevis), St. Pierre (Martinique) and finally Bridgetown (Barbados).
Miami’s sultry Magnetism and swaying palm sets the tone for this colourful caper through the Caribbean, where crystalline warm waters, white-as-sugar sands and lively cultural spirit are a common thread. We switch the art deco sweep of South Beach and the most charismatic of the Florida Keys for the beautiful baths on volcanic Virgin Gorda, where natural boulders between two sandy bays have created a labyrinth of shallow sun-dappled pools and shady grottoes.
To pretty, Georgian Basseterre and the rainforested slopes of Saint Kitts, where we climb it’s steep upland trails to ogle orchids in a gossamer mist or head to the shore to swim with sea turtles. Sailing south to the Lesser Antilles and Gauguin’s Martinique, we find sugar plantations, thundering waterfalls and the 18thc ruins of Saint Pierre, destroyed in 1902 by still smouldering Mont Pelée, before gently breezing into Bridgetown and embracing its slow Bajan rhythm.
