We bid farewell to the year upon the sybaritic beaches of Virgin Gorda, so-called by Christopher Columbus, who decided the island’s rain-forested folds resembled the curves of a woman. You might summit Gorda peak and explore the renowned Baths, a labyrinth of shallow seawater-filled grottoes. Before the clock strikes, midnight, you sail under a starry sky and watch the New Year dawn on the horizon. The new sun rises unhurriedly across ancient Antigua and little sister Barbuda where the pinkest sands proclaim paradise is found. Sailing south to volcanic Martinique, you marvel in the mix of Gallic charms, where fresh baguettes and riotous pétanque games in town fade away into tropical forests. To glam Barbados with its buzzy Bridgetown, glorious botanical gardens, epic surf on the east and manicured perfection on the west, green monkeys and golf.
