Port Royal
Port Royal is a village, founded in 1494 by the Spanish at the mouth of Kingston Harbor, in southeastern Jamaica, it was the largest city in the Caribbean. The second half of the 17th century was operating as the center of commerce and shipping. On 7 June 1692 was destroyed by an earthquake and a tsunami. That lead to the establishment of Kingston, which is now the largest city in Jamaica. Severe hurricanes have regularly damaged the area. In 1999 they started to redevelop Port Royal and changed from a small fishing town to a heritage tourism destination to serve cruise ships.
