Codrington is in the country of Antigua and Barbuda; it is a town on the island of Barbuda. John Christopher Codrington and his brother founded Codrington in 1685, it is the main residential city on the island. Colonel Christopher Codrington (1640 – 1698) was a colonial administrator and English plantation owner. Him and his brother built a castle which dominated the town but was damaged by an earthquake in 1843 and now a small trace of it remains, the town in 2001 had a population of about 900. The first rebellion of slaves happened in Codrington in 1741, due to "cruel and tyrannical» behavior of manager Thomas Beach. Hurricane Irma in 2017 destroyed the island, which was evacuated, but most of the people have now returned. The population of Codrington was 1,252 in 1991.
