Alta, Norway

Alta is the northernmost city in the world and lies in Finnmark country. Main activities in Alta include trading, small industry, education, and public service. The town is also famous for its slate industry. Finnmark University College is situated in Alta, and there is also a research institution. The town has the most northern Ice hotel in Europe.

Alesund, Norway

Alesund is a coastal town, a fishing and trading center. One of the city's landmarks is the marble church of Giske-one of the oldest examples of the spread of Christianity in Norway. Alesund was completely destroyed by fire in 1904 and was totaly rebuilded according to the Art Nouveau style. Nowadays Alesund has a unique atmosphere with incredible décors, colorful facades and the turrets that look like it sprang from a medieval fairytale.

Torshavn, Faroe Islands

Faeroes that  means Sheep Islands is a cluster of 18 islands (17 habitable), which are the  homonymous archipelago in the North Atlantic Ocean between Scotland, Norway and Iceland. Tórshavn is a small city of approximately 20,000 residents that becomes "alive" every year during the summer when visitors from every corner of Europe and beyond come to visit. Descendants of the Vikings firstly inhabited the islands around the 9th century, the inhabitants of the islands as well as the Icelanders are their descendants. Visit The Tinganes, the oldest part of town with small wooden houses and roofs covered with grass. The oldest of these is about 500 year old . Its worth visiting the Tórshavn Cathedral, Tórshavn harbor, the Listasavn Føroya Museum of Art  and the Nordic House  the most important cultural center of the Faroes.

Paamiut (Frederkshab), Greenland

Paamiut, formerly Frederikshab, is a town in southwestern Greenland. People have lived in the Paamiut area since around 1500 BC. The trading post of Frederikshaab was established by Jacob Severin's company in 1742 and named in honor of the Crown Prince Frederick. The community prospered on trading fur and whale products. It also became known for its soapstone artists. The town has one of the finest churcehs in Greenland, built in 1990 from wood in the Norwegian style.

Gothenburg

Gothenburg has a wide selection of cultural institutions, including theaters and museums. The Gothenburg Botanical Garden is considered one of the remarkable botanical gardens in Europe.

Harstad, Norway

Harstad is a municipality in Troms, Norway. It is mostly located on the northeastern part of Hinnoya Island, which is Norway’s largest coastal island. The city itself is located on the northeastern part of on Hinnoya. Ιt is the only city on the island, and is popularly known as Vagsfjordens perle (The pearl of Vagsfjorden). Despite being located north of the Arctic Circle, Harstad features a sub-polar oceanic climate with relatively mild winters and cool summers. The city enjoys the midnight sun during the summer months, from 22 May to 18 July. There is also a period from early May to early August with twilight for a few hours each night as the sun just dips below the horizon, so there is no darkness. The polar night, when the sun is always below the horizon, lasts from 30 November to 12 January. 

Haugesund, Norway

 Haugesund is a town in the county of Rogaland, Norway. The town has during the last 20 years established its position as the main trading centre for Haugaland and southern parts of Hordaland. It has several relatively large shopping centres, considering the size of the town.

Hammerfest, Norway

 Hammerfest  is a municipality in Finnmark county, Norway. Hammerfest offers sport and commercial fishing, both sea and freshwater, as well as scuba diving. The northernmost glacier on the Norwegian mainland is a popular hiking destination. The town is a popular starting point for northern tours. 

Honningsvag, Norway

Honningsvag is the northernmost city in Europe. It is the largest and busiest port of call in Northern Europe, during summer season, as it is the gateway to the North Cape. Due to the Gulf Stream the climate is subarctic and the ice-free ocean provides rich fisheries since praehistoric times. Narvik

Narvik is a town in Norway with a population of approximately 15,300 residents. From Narvik is extracted iron ore. The city has access to numerous outdoor activities. This is the best known location in northern Norway for alpine skiing. Fishing in the fjord or in lakes and streams is a popular leisure activity.

Edinburgh (Newhaven)

Newhaven is a district in the City of Edinburgh, Scotland, between Leith and Granton and about 2 miles (3.2 km) north of the city centre. Newhaven was designated a conservation area, one of 40 such areas in Edinburgh, in 1977. It has a very distinctive building form, typical of many Scottish fishing villages, accommodation at first floor level. The lower ground floor was used for storing nets. More modern housing dating from the 1960s has replicated the style of these older buildings.

Svolvaer (Lofoten)
